A large range of hardware and software can now support this: AltGr + E is
the EU recommended keyboard sequence. However some vendors are using AltGr
+ 4 instead. The local use of comma's and dots as separators is unlikely
to change, with values being expressed to two decimal places (as per sterling).
Older typewriters may be able to overstrike a C with the equals sign =.
The official abbreviation for the euro is 'EUR'. This has been registered
with the International Standards Organisation (ISO), and will be used for
all business, financial and commercial purposes, just as the terms 'FRF'
(French franc), 'DEM' (Deutschmark), 'GBP' (pound sterling) and 'BEF' (Belgian
franc) are used today. The sub-division of the euro is the cent, thus 0.14
euro is 14 cents. After 1st January 1999 the term 'ecu' was officially replaced
by the term 'euro'.
