Confused Americans for Truth - Another Chinese Recall

This time, it's toys. A bunch of toys manufactured in China are being recalled because they use lead paint. Lead is well-known to be a serious poison.

Lead-based compounds are extremely opaque, and come in a variety of colors. This makes them excellent ingredients for paint, but microscopic particles of the stuff tend to come off when it is handled, and when children lick their fingers the lead gets into their bloodstream. In the United States, lead paint is the primary vector for lead poisoning, even though it has been illegal in the United States since 1978.

China, however, is different. However much they've distanced themselves from their Communist roots, China is still governed by the rule of men, not the rule of law. In particular, it is a rule of men who take bribes.

People will tell you that China is a test case for unrestricted capitalism, but in fact it's a test case for unrestricted government. The government can do anything it wants, and if you need to be disconnected from the consequences of your actions, it only takes a small fee. The more power the government has, the bigger the market for special treatment.

And that's why campaign finance reform has to be redesigned every few years. The payoff from a politician's gratitude keeps getting larger as we regulate more things, and eventually it reaches the point where you start looking for creative ways around the limits, such as laundering a $100K contribution by splitting it into little pieces.

That's the real culture of corruption.

I am a regular reader of your article. And I am very impress with your blog upon Global Warming. Now I am also write a blog upon effects and causes of Global Warming. This blog is collection of news & reviews like the study found that global warming since 1985 has been caused neither by an increase in solar radiation nor by a decrease in the flux of galactic cosmic rays. Some researchers had also suggested that the latter might influence global warming because the rays trigger cloud formation.
